I saw the ‘Tamiflu’ report on today’s morning News Programs, most of you will remember the huge fuss made when we were told that the Swine flu threat was serious and that there was going to be a Pandemic. My children’s school was the first to be closed (Alleyn’s in Dulwich) We (the parents) were asked to go to the school to pick up the medication (Tamiflu) and take it ourselves and give it to our children, I would like to stress that the school were being advised by the health department and didn’t really have much choice. There were queues of worried parents rushing to get the medication.
I was the only parent that I know of who refused it. Instead I gave my children large doses of buffered Vitamin C. Not only did they not get Swine flu, but they didn’t get ANY colds that year (they haven’t had cold’s the following years either). The children and parents that did take seemed to experience unpleasant side effects. My daughter told me that many of the children had very painful legs and couldn’t take part in sport for a week. I am certain that many of the parents regret getting their children to take the antiviral drugs.
Over use of antivirals also increase resistance from viruses, as over use of antibiotics have done with certain bacteria strains.
So imagine my NON surprise when the report this morning is questioning the safety and efficacy of Tamiflu.
